What is flywhisk?

A flywhisk is a fan or whisk made from a handle and a number of horse-tail or plant fibers attached to it, used mainly to swat away flies or other flying insects. It is commonly used in many parts of the world, particularly in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, as a tool of etiquette or a symbol of power or authority. In some cultures, such as in traditional African societies, flywhisks are regarded as sacred objects and are often used as a sign of respect or reverence during ceremonial occasions. The use of flywhisks in Western countries has been mostly confined to horse training and showing, where they are used to keep insects away from the horses' eyes and noses. Today, flywhisks are available in a wide range of styles and sizes, and may be made from various materials, including feathers, fur, and synthetic fibers.
