What is frenoplasty?

Frenoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the removal or reduction of the frenulum, a small piece of tissue that connects two parts of the body. The frenulum can be found in different parts of the body, such as inside the mouth, between the upper and lower lip, and underneath the tongue. Frenoplasty is most commonly performed in the mouth, where it can address issues such as a tongue-tie or a lip-tie.

During the procedure, the frenulum is cut or released to provide more movement and flexibility to the affected area. This can improve speech, swallowing, and overall oral health. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and can be completed quickly, often in under 30 minutes.

Frenoplasty is considered a safe and effective procedure, but like any surgery, it carries some risks. These may include bleeding, infection, scarring, and a recurrence of the frenulum. Patients may experience some discomfort or swelling after the procedure, but this typically subsides within a few days.

Frenoplasty is commonly performed on infants and children, but it can also be performed on adults who are experiencing issues related to their frenulum. A skilled and experienced surgeon can assess the individual needs of each patient and provide personalized care and treatment options.
