What is galla?

Galla, or more commonly known as gallnuts or oak galls, are round-shaped growths that form on oak trees caused by insects called gall wasps. These growths are primarily found on oak trees in temperate regions around the world, including Europe, Asia, and North America. Galla is commonly used in the production of ink, dyes, and tannins for leather industry. It is also used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Galla has a sour taste and is high in tannic acid, which gives it its various health benefits, but also makes it difficult to digest in large quantities.
