What is garba?

Garba is a traditional folk dance performed during the nine-day Hindu festival of Navratri. The word garba means 'womb' and symbolizes the cycle of life, creation, and fertility.

The dance is performed in a circular formation around an earthen lamp or a picture of the Goddess Durga. It involves clapping of hands, twirling in circular motions, and vibrant costumes.

The dance is popular in the western part of India, especially in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. There are many variations of garba, including the 'dandiya' dance which involves the use of wooden sticks.

Garba is a vibrant, energetic dance that celebrates the victory of good over evil and the power of the feminine divine. It is a form of cultural expression and a way of celebrating the community spirit during the festive season.
