What is geez?

Geez is an ancient language that originated in the Horn of Africa, primarily spoken in Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is an ancient Semitic language and is considered one of the oldest languages in the world. It is also the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and Eritrean Orthodox Church.

Geez has a unique script, known as Ge'ez script or Fidel, which is used only for writing Geez. It is also used to write the Amharic and Tigrigna languages, among others.

Geez has influenced many languages in the region, including Amharic, Tigrigna, Tigre, and others. It is also used in academic and research contexts in the fields of anthropology, linguistics, and archaeology.

Some of the most notable features of Geez include its unique consonant-vowel structure, its complex grammar and syntax, and its use of prefixes and suffixes to denote tense, mood, and aspect. Despite its ancient origins, Geez remains a living language with a vibrant cultural heritage.
