What is gemellas?

Gemellas or Gemellae are a type of bacterial species that are found in pairs or chains. The name "gemella" comes from the Latin word "gemellus" which means "twin". These bacteria are known for their ability to cause infections in humans, particularly in the respiratory system, urinary tract, and bloodstream. They are often Gram-positive, non-motile, and facultative anaerobes. Gemellas can be identified through laboratory tests such as culturing and biochemical analysis. Treatment typically involves antibiotic therapy, and the prognosis is generally favorable if the infection is diagnosed and treated promptly. Besides causing infections, Gemellas have been studied for their potential use in probiotics and the production of enzymes and other products of commercial interest.
