What is ghatanathoa?

Ghatanathoa is a fictional deity created by writer H.P. Lovecraft in his Cthulhu Mythos. Also known as the "God of the Bloody Tongue", it is described as a gigantic and grotesque god with a massive head and an enormous tongue covered in blood. Ghatanathoa is said to reside in a remote and inaccessible plateau in the Mountains of Madness in Antarctica. It is worshipped by a cult called the Tongue of Ghatanathoa, who perform bloody rituals and sacrifices to appease the god. The deity has appeared in several Lovecraftian tales and is feared as one of the most terrifying and dangerous entities in the mythology.
