What is gilaks?

Gilaks are an ethnic group native to the northern coast of Iran, particularly in the province of Gilan. They speak the Gilaki language, which is a Northwestern Iranian language. Gilaks are primarily Shi'a Muslims and their culture is heavily influenced by pre-Islamic traditions such as Zoroastrianism. The traditional occupations of Gilaks include agriculture, fishing, and handicrafts such as carpet weaving and woodcarving. The cuisine of Gilan, which is known for its diverse and flavorful dishes, is also a significant part of their culture. Gilaks have a rich history and have played a significant role in the politics and culture of the Caspian Sea region. Today, many Gilaks have migrated to other parts of Iran and the world in search of better economic opportunities.
