What is grafeneck?

Grafeneck is a small town located in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located in the district of Böblingen and has a population of around 1,200 people.

During World War II, the Grafeneck Castle in the town was used as a Nazi euthanasia center where over 10,000 disabled and mentally ill people were murdered by the Nazis. This operation was known as Action T4.

In 1940, the Nazis installed a gas chamber at the castle and began killing patients by lethal injection and carbon monoxide poisoning. The victims were mainly from mental institutions across Germany and Austria, including children as young as one year old.

Today, the Grafeneck Castle is a memorial site and museum dedicated to the victims of the Nazi euthanasia program. It serves as a reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and the importance of remembering the past to prevent such horrors from happening again in the future.
