What is greenboots?

Greenboots is the nickname given to the unidentified Indian climber who died during a Mount Everest summit expedition in 1996. His body lay frozen on the mountain's Northeast Ridge for over a decade, becoming a landmark for climbers. Despite numerous attempts to remove his body, it remains on the mountain. Greenboots was given his nickname because of the distinctive green boots he was wearing which helped identify him. His identity, however, remains unknown.
