What is greenpalm?

GreenPalm is a certificate trading program that was established in 2008 by the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) with the aim of promoting and supporting the sustainable production of palm oil. It provides a market-based solution that allows companies to support the production of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) without having to physically handle it or verify the supply chain.

The GreenPalm program issues certificates for every tonne of CSPO produced by certified palm oil producers. These certificates are then available for sale to companies who want to support the production of sustainable palm oil without necessarily purchasing the physical commodity. By buying GreenPalm certificates, companies can support the sustainable production of palm oil, while meeting their sustainability goals and satisfying consumer demand for more ethical and sustainable products.

The program has been successful in promoting and increasing the production of sustainable palm oil, and it has become a key tool in the RSPO's efforts to transition the palm oil industry towards more sustainable practices. Since its establishment, the program has traded over 30 million certificates, and its impact has been significant in driving the uptake of sustainable palm oil in various sectors including food and cosmetics.
