What is guassa?

Guassa is a traditional Ethiopian music style that originated in the northern Ethiopian region of Amhara. The music is characterized by the use of a one-stringed fiddle called the masenqo, accompanied by a percussion instrument called the kebero. Guassa has a distinct rhythm that is created by a group of musicians clapping, singing, and playing the instruments together. The lyrics of guassa songs are often about love, social issues, and Ethiopian history and culture. Guassa is typically performed at weddings, religious ceremonies, and other celebrations in Ethiopia. In 2013, UNESCO added guassa to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
