What is guge?

Guge was an ancient kingdom that existed in Western Tibet from the 10th to 17th century. It was known for its unique culture, art, and architecture. The kingdom was established by King Yeshe-Ö around the 10th century and reached its peak during the 11th and 12th centuries.

Guge was influenced by Indian, Nepalese, and Chinese cultures, which is reflected in its art and architecture. The kingdom was known for its elaborate temples, palaces, and monasteries, many of which were carved into the cliffs of the surrounding mountains.

Guge was eventually conquered by the neighboring kingdom of Ladakh in the 17th century, and its once-prosperous civilization fell into decline. Today, the ruins of Guge are a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to admire the ancient architecture and learn about the history of this lost kingdom.
