What is gustation?

Gustation is the sense of taste, which refers to the ability to detect chemicals and distinguish between different flavors in food, beverages, and other substances. Gustation is considered one of the five senses, along with sight, hearing, touch, and smell. Taste buds located on the tongue and the roof of the mouth are responsible for sensing different flavors such as salt, sweet, sour, and bitter. The perception of taste is also influenced by other factors such as texture, temperature, and aroma. Gustation plays an essential role in our diet as the ability to taste different flavors helps us identify and avoid harmful substances while also enriching our culinary experiences.
