What is haze?

Haze is an atmospheric phenomenon that often occurs due to the presence of particles and pollutants in the air. It is characterized by a blurry or hazy appearance of the atmosphere, reducing visibility and causing a sense of haziness in the surroundings. Haze is mainly caused by human-made pollutants such as particulate matter (PM 2.5), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released during industrial processes, transportation, and agricultural activities. Haze can have significant impacts on human health and the environment, as it can worsen respiratory diseases, reduce crop yields, and contribute to climate change by trapping heat in the atmosphere.
