What is houlka?

Houlka is a small town located in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 609. The town was named after the Chickasaw chief Houlka Hikancha or "Red Panther". The town has a post office, a volunteer fire department, and a few local businesses. Houlka is part of the Tupelo Micropolitan Statistical Area and is located about 20 miles southeast of Tupelo. The town is also home to Houlka Attendance Center, a K-12 school that serves students in the area.
