What is hubiese?

Hubiese is a past subjunctive form of the Spanish verb "haber", which means "to have". It is used in hypothetical or uncertain situations, expressing a possibility or a condition that may or may not have happened in the past. It is also commonly used in the construction of the type 3 conditional, which expresses a hypothetical past situation and its consequence.

For example:

  • Si hubiese estudiado más, habría aprobado el examen. (If I had studied more, I would have passed the exam.)
  • Hubiese sido genial si hubieras venido a la fiesta. (It would have been great if you had come to the party.)
