ILT20 (International League T20)

The International League T20 (ILT20) is a professional Twenty20 (T20) cricket league in the United Arab Emirates. It was founded in 2022 and the inaugural season took place in January and February 2023.

  • Purpose and Founding: The league was created to further develop cricket in the UAE and provide a platform for both international and local players.

  • Ownership and Structure: The league is sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). The teams involved are mostly owned by owners of existing Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.

  • Teams: There are six teams in the ILT20. These teams represent different cities in the UAE.

  • Format: The tournament follows a round-robin format, with each team playing the others twice. The top four teams then qualify for the playoffs.

  • Player Composition: Each team is allowed a certain number of international players in their squad and in the playing XI. This provides opportunities for local UAE players to play alongside and learn from experienced international cricketers.

  • Impact and Significance: The ILT20 has quickly become a prominent T20 league, attracting significant viewership and providing a substantial boost to the cricketing landscape in the UAE. It also offers lucrative contracts for players.
