What is ingivitis?

Gingivitis is a common type of gum disease that causes inflammation of the gums, which become red, swollen and bleed easily. It is caused by the buildup of plaque on the teeth, which can irritate the gums and lead to infection. Symptoms of gingivitis include bad breath, gum tenderness, sensitivity, and minor bleeding while brushing or flossing. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, which is more severe gum disease and can cause tooth decay, bone loss, and even tooth loss. Gingivitis can be prevented and treated by maintaining good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, regular dental visits, and a healthy diet.
