Wolfgang Ischinger is a German diplomat, ambassador, and president of the Munich Security Conference. He was born on April 6, 1946, in Beuren, Germany. Ischinger studied law and history at the universities of Bonn and Geneva. He later went on to become a career diplomat, and in 1973, he joined the German Foreign Service. He has served as the German ambassador to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Austria, as well as the EU Special Representative for the Implementation of the Kosovo Status Settlement. Ischinger has been the organizer of the Munich Security Conference since 2008, and he is also a visiting professor at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. He is known for his expertise in European security and foreign policy issues.
