What is izokonazol?

Izokonazol is a synthetic antifungal agent that belongs to the imidazole class of compounds. It is used to treat various fungal infections, including those of the skin, hair, and nails. Izokonazol works by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. By disrupting the cell membrane, izokonazol ultimately leads to the death of the fungus. Izokonazol is usually administered topically, either in the form of a cream or lotion, or as a solution for nail infections. The medication has been found to be effective against a wide range of fungal species, including dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds. Izokonazol is generally well-tolerated, although it may cause some mild side effects such as skin irritation, itching, or rash. It should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to imidazole antifungals or any of the other ingredients in the medication. Izokonazol may also interact with other medications, and patients should always consult with their doctors before starting treatment.
