What is jahannam?

Jahannam, also known as Hell in Islam, is the Islamic concept of the afterlife where sinners and unbelievers are punished for their wrongdoings. It is described as a place of intense heat and torment, with various levels of punishment based on the severity of the sins committed.

In Islamic belief, Jahannam is considered to be a physical place rather than just a metaphorical concept. It is described in the Quran as a fiery pit where the sinners will be burned and tortured for eternity.

Those who are condemned to Jahannam will suffer various punishments such as being burned in fire, boiling water, and other forms of torment. The severity of the punishment will be based on the individual's deeds and sins committed in their lifetime.

However, Jahannam is not seen as the final destination for all sinners in Islam. It is believed that through repentance, seeking forgiveness, and performing good deeds, one may be able to avoid punishment in Jahannam and attain Paradise instead.
