What is jashodaben?

Jashodaben Modi is the wife of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They were married in a traditional arranged marriage in 1968, but they have been living separately for many years. Jashodaben is a retired school teacher and leads a quiet life in the town of Unjha in the state of Gujarat. Despite being married to one of the most powerful politicians in India, she has largely stayed out of the public eye and rarely speaks to the media. In recent years, there have been some efforts to provide her with official security and other benefits as the spouse of the Prime Minister, but Jashodaben has mostly preferred to live a private and independent life.
