Jojoy, whose full name was Jorge Briceño Suárez, was a Colombian guerrilla and military commander who served as the second in command and chief military strategist of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group.
Jojoy was born in 1953 in La Uribe, Colombia, and joined the FARC in the 1970s. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the group's most important leaders and military commanders.
Jojoy was known for his ruthless tactics and his role in carrying out some of the FARC's most brutal attacks. He was also responsible for several kidnappings, including that of former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.
In 2010, Jojoy was killed in a military operation carried out by the Colombian military. His death was seen as a major blow to the FARC, which had been engaged in a decades-long conflict with the Colombian government.
