Jufureh is a small village located along the Gambia River in the West African country of The Gambia. It is known for its important role in the slave trade during the colonial period. Many African slaves were taken from Jufureh and surrounding areas and transported across the Atlantic to the Americas. The village is also known for its ties to American writer Alex Haley, who traced his ancestry back to a man named Kunta Kinte who was allegedly captured and sold into slavery from Jufureh. Today, Jufureh is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to explore the history of the slave trade and learn about the culture of the village. The locals are mostly Mandinkas and the village has preserved many of its traditional practices, including agriculture, fishing, and crafts such as basket weaving.
