What is jutia?

Jutia is a small to medium-sized rodent that belongs to the Capromyidae family. They are found in the Caribbean, particularly in Cuba and surrounding islands. Jutia are known for their rounded bodies, short legs, and long tails. They have a thick fur coat that helps them stay warm in their tropical habitats.

Jutia are primarily herbivores, feeding on a variety of plants, fruits, and vegetables. They are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are most active at night. Jutia are also excellent climbers and swimmers, using their agile bodies to navigate their forested habitats.

Unfortunately, many species of jutia are currently threatened or endangered due to habitat loss, hunting, and introduced predators. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these unique rodents and their ecosystems.
