What is kcmil?

Kcmil stands for "thousand circular mils," which is a unit of measurement used to describe the cross-sectional area of a conductor. It is commonly used in the electrical and telecommunications industries to measure the size and capacity of wires and cables. One circular mil is equal to the area of a circle with a diameter of one mil (1/1000 of an inch), so one kcmil is equal to 1000 circular mils. The larger the kcmil rating of a wire or cable, the larger its capacity for conducting electricity.
