What is keloid?

Keloid is a type of raised scar that occurs due to an abnormal growth of collagen in the skin. It typically forms after an injury or trauma to the skin, such as surgery, piercing, burns, acne, or chickenpox. Keloid scars are more common in people with dark skin and have a tendency to spread beyond the original site of injury. They are usually painless but can cause itching or discomfort. Treatment options for keloid scars include corticosteroid injections, surgical removal, laser therapy, and cryotherapy. However, keloid scars may recur even after treatment.
