What is khaleesi?

"Khaleesi" is a title from the popular book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin, which was adapted into the HBO television series "Game of Thrones." The title is held by Daenerys Targaryen, one of the series' main characters. In the fictional Dothraki culture depicted in the series, "Khaleesi" denotes the wife of a "Khal," or chieftain of a Dothraki tribe.

Daenerys Targaryen becomes a Khaleesi after her marriage to Khal Drogo, a powerful leader of the Dothraki people. Over the course of the series, Daenerys evolves from a relatively passive character into a strong and determined ruler with aspirations to claim the Iron Throne of Westeros and restore her family's rule. She is also known for her dragons, being referred to as "Mother of Dragons," which she raises and uses in her quest for power. Her character is central to many of the series’ overarching plots and themes, particularly those relating to power, leadership, and identity.
