What is kidding?

Kidding is the term used to describe the process of a female goat giving birth to baby goats, which are called kids. This process typically takes place in the spring, and goats can have between one and six kids in a single kidding. Before kidding, goats may exhibit signs of restlessness, pacing, and may isolate themselves from the rest of the herd. During labor, the goat will lay down, contract and push until the kid is born. The process typically takes between 30 minutes to three hours. Once the kid is born, the doe will clean and care for it. It's important to monitor the doe and kids closely during kidding to ensure that everything goes smoothly, and to provide any necessary assistance or intervention. After kidding, the doe will produce milk for the kids, and they will nurse for the first few months of their lives. Kidding is an exciting and critical time for goats and their keepers.
