What is kinyongia?

Kinyongia is a genus of chameleons belonging to the family Chamaeleonidae. These chameleons are endemic to East Africa and are found in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Species of Kinyongia are medium to large-sized chameleons with a maximum length of 40 cm. They have a characteristic casque, or helmet, on their head, and their eyes can move independently of each other. Kinyongia chameleons are arboreal, meaning they spend most of their time in trees and shrubs. They are known to change color to blend in with their environment and to communicate with other chameleons. Some species of Kinyongia are listed as endangered due to habitat loss, deforestation, and the pet trade.
