What is kiseru?

Kiseru is a traditional Japanese smoking pipe used for smoking tobacco. It consists of a metal or bamboo tube with a bowl at one end for holding the tobacco and a mouthpiece at the other end for the smoker to inhale the smoke. Kiseru pipes are typically small and compact, making them easy to carry around.

Kiseru pipes were popular in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868) and were commonly used by samurais, merchants, and other members of the upper class. The design of the kiseru pipe varied depending on the social status of the user, with more ornate and decorative pipes being reserved for nobility.

Today, kiseru pipes are less commonly used in Japan, as smoking has declined in popularity and tobacco regulations have become stricter. However, there are still enthusiasts who appreciate the tradition and craftsmanship of kiseru pipes, and they can be found for sale in specialty shops and online retailers.
