What is kooris?

Kooris is a term used to refer to the indigenous peoples of Australia. The term originated in the southeastern part of Australia and is commonly used by Indigenous Australians of New South Wales and Victoria. It is a word that is both descriptive and inclusive, meaning Indigenous Australians from many different language and cultural groups can identify as Koori.

Koori culture is rich with traditions and practices that have been passed down for generations. These traditions include dance, music, storytelling, hunting, fishing, and gathering.

The Koori people have experienced many challenges throughout history, including colonization, forced removal from their land, and discrimination. Despite this, Koori people have maintained a strong connection to their culture and continue to work towards greater recognition and reconciliation.

Today, there are over 700,000 Indigenous Australians, including Koori people, living in Australia. They continue to make significant contributions to Australian society, particularly in the areas of art, music, and sport.
