What is kt-88?

KT-88 is a type of power vacuum tube that was developed by the Marconi-Osram Valve Company in the late 1950s. It is a pentode, which means it has five electrodes, and it was designed to be a high-powered tube for use in audio amplifiers and other applications that require a lot of power.

KT-88 tubes have a maximum plate voltage of around 800 volts, a grid voltage of up to -70 volts, and can handle a maximum continuous plate dissipation of around 42 watts. They are known for their ability to produce high power output with low distortion, making them a popular choice for high-fidelity audio amplifiers.

KT-88 tubes were originally manufactured by the GEC (General Electric Company) in the UK and later by other companies, including Genelex/Gold Lion, Tung-Sol, and JJ Electronic. They are still widely used today in high-end audio equipment and are considered by many to be among the best-sounding power tubes available.
