What is laurisia?

Laurisia was a supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic era, about 450 million years ago. It was one of two supercontinents, the other being Gondwana.

Laurisia was formed by the collision of several smaller continents, including Laurentia (North America) and Baltica (northern Europe). It was located in the northern hemisphere, mostly covering what is now North America and Europe.

During the Devonian period, Laurisia was mostly covered by shallow seas and experienced a diversification of fish species. It also had significant uplift and mountain-building activity during the Carboniferous and Permian periods.

Laurisia began to break apart in the late Permian period, eventually forming the modern continents of North America, Europe, and Asia.
