What is levertraan?

Levertraan is a fish oil derived from the liver of cod fish, primarily Gadus morhua. It's a rich source of several important nutrients, notably Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Historically, levertraan was widely used to prevent and treat Rickets, a bone disease caused by Vitamin D deficiency. It was a staple supplement, especially in regions with limited sunlight exposure.

Besides bone health, the Omega-3 fatty acids in levertraan offer several other potential benefits, including supporting Cardiovascular health, reducing Inflammation, and potentially improving brain function.

However, it's important to be mindful of Vitamin A toxicity, as excessive intake can lead to adverse effects. Modern vitamin supplements and fortified foods have largely replaced levertraan as the primary source of Vitamins A and D in many developed countries.
