What is littorine?

Littorina is a genus of small sea snails, commonly known as periwinkles or winkles. They are found along the shores of the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans, as well as other coastal areas around the world. Littorina species are commonly found in the intertidal zone, where they feed on algae and other small organisms. They are an important food source for many animals, including birds and humans. Some species of Littorina have become invasive in certain areas, causing problems for native species and ecosystems.
