What is loxocemus?

Loxocemus is a genus of snake commonly known as the blunt-headed vine snake or bird snake. These snakes are found in Central and South America and are primarily arboreal (tree-dwelling). The name "blunt-headed" refers to their flattened and broad head, which is adapted for climbing and maneuvering through dense vegetation. They are typically green or brown in color and range in size from around 1-2 meters in length.

Blunt-headed vine snakes are mildly venomous and primarily feed on birds and small mammals. They are also known to eat lizards and frogs. These snakes are often hunted for their skins, which are used to make leather goods. The conservation status of Blunt-headed vine snakes is currently unknown, as there is limited data on their population size and trends.
