What is luminescent?

Luminescence is the emission of light from a substance without the elevation of its temperature. Luminescent materials include phosphorescent and fluorescent materials, which emit light over a long period and instantaneously, respectively. These materials are commonly used in various applications, such as in lighting, displays, medical imaging, and radiation detection. The luminescence phenomenon is caused by the absorption of energy by an atom or molecule, followed by the reemission of this energy as light. Some common examples of luminescent materials include glow-in-the-dark paints, LED lights, and fluorescent lamps.
