What is m.epicranius?

m.epicranius (also known as the occipitofrontalis muscle) is a thin, broad muscle located in the scalp. It is composed of two main parts, the frontalis and occipitalis, and is responsible for the movement of the forehead and scalp. The frontalis part of the muscle is located in the forehead and contracts to raise the eyebrows and wrinkle the forehead. The occipitalis part of the muscle is located at the base of the skull and is responsible for pulling the scalp backward. The m.epicranius muscle works in conjunction with the muscles of the face to allow for facial expressions. It is innervated by the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) and the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V).
