What is makular?

Makular, also known as macular degeneration, is a disease that affects the macula, which is a small area in the center of the retina of the eye. It is the leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in people over the age of 50.

There are two types of macular degeneration: dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration is more common and progresses slowly, while wet macular degeneration progresses more rapidly and can cause severe vision loss in a shorter period of time.

Symptoms of macular degeneration include blurred or distorted vision, difficulty reading, decreased color perception, and a dark or empty spot in the center of vision. It is important to have regular eye exams, especially after the age of 50, to diagnose and monitor this disease.

While there is currently no cure for macular degeneration, there are treatment options available to slow its progression and manage symptoms. These include vitamin supplements, injections, and laser therapy. Additionally, lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, exercise, and not smoking can help reduce the risk of developing macular degeneration.
