Manichitrathazhu is a 1993 Indian Malayalam-language psychological thriller film directed by Fazil, starring Shobana, Suresh Gopi, and Mohanlal. It is considered one of the greatest Malayalam films ever made.
The film revolves around the story of Ganga (played by Shobana), a young woman who starts exhibiting signs of Dissociative Identity Disorder after she and her husband, Nakulan (played by Suresh Gopi), move into a dilapidated mansion called Madampalli. The mansion is believed to be haunted by the spirit of Nagavalli, a dancer from centuries past who was murdered.
As Ganga delves deeper into the history of Madampalli, she begins to identify with Nagavalli and starts displaying her mannerisms and speech patterns. Nakulan becomes increasingly concerned about Ganga's mental state and seeks the help of a psychiatrist, Dr. Sunny Joseph (played by Mohanlal). Dr. Sunny, however, suspects that something more supernatural may be at play.
