What is manicous?

Manicou, also known as the common opossum, is a marsupial native to Central and South America. They are generally nocturnal and arboreal, meaning they spend most of their time in trees. They have a prehensile tail, which helps them to climb and balance, and opposable thumbs on their hind feet, which allow them to grasp onto branches.

Manicous have a distinctive appearance with grayish-brown fur, a pointed face, and black eyes. They are known for their defensive behavior of "playing possum," where they feign death when threatened, in order to deter predators.

In terms of diet, manicous are opportunistic omnivores, meaning they will eat a variety of foods including fruit, insects, small animals, and carrion. They are also known to raid gardens and fruit trees, much to the annoyance of farmers.

Manicou hunting is a popular activity in some regions, and their meat is considered a delicacy in many countries. However, in some areas, manicous are also considered pests, causing damage to crops and property.
