What is matriculant?

A matriculant is someone who has successfully completed and obtained a senior certificate or high school diploma after finishing their secondary education. In South Africa, the term "matriculant" refers specifically to those who have completed their Grade 12 examinations, which are typically taken at the age of 17 or 18. Matriculants are required to pass a series of exams in different subjects, including English, Mathematics, and a minimum of four other subjects of their choice, in order to obtain their senior certificate or high school diploma. These qualifications are often necessary for gaining admission to tertiary education institutions or for pursuing certain careers.
