What is michelange?

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (1475-1564) was an Italian sculptor, painter, and architect. He is widely considered one of the greatest artists in history and had a profound impact on Western art.

Michelangelo started his career as an apprentice at the age of 13, working under several prominent sculptors in Florence. He gained fame at a young age for his Pieta sculpture, which depicts the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus.

Later in life, Michelangelo completed his most famous work, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. It took him over four years to paint the intricate biblical scenes and figures that circle the chapel ceiling, a masterpiece of artistic ingenuity and technical skill.

He was also known for his design of the dome on St. Peter's Basilica, which he oversaw the construction of after the death of the original architect, Bramante.

Michelangelo's style is characterized by his use of muscular figures, dramatic poses, and attention to detail. He is considered a key figure in the Renaissance period and his works continue to inspire and captivate people around the world to this day.
