What is micropipette?

Micropipettes are laboratory instruments used to measure very small volumes of liquid, typically ranging from 0.1 microliters to 1000 microliters. They are commonly used in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microbiology.

Micropipettes consist of a piston-driven system that allows the user to accurately measure and dispense small volumes of liquid. The lower end of the micropipette has a tip that is designed to fit snugly onto a disposable pipette tip.

There are three types of micropipettes – single-channel, multi-channel, and adjustable volume micropipettes. Single-channel micropipettes are used for dispensing one type of liquid at a time while multi-channel micropipettes can dispense several types of liquid at a time. Adjustable volume micropipettes can be calibrated to dispense a range of volumes.

It is important to maintain and calibrate micropipettes regularly to ensure accurate measurements. Inaccurate measurements can lead to errors in experiments and can negatively impact the results.
