What is mirandes?

Mirandese is a Romance language spoken in Northeast Portugal, in the Terra de Miranda region of the Miranda do Douro municipality. It has about 15,000 speakers. It is a recognized regional language in Portugal and has its own orthography. While Mirandese is closely related to the Portuguese language, it has unique characteristics, such as the retention of some archaic features of the Galician-Portuguese language and the incorporation of words borrowed from Spanish and Leonese. Mirandese culture is also distinctive, with traditional music, dance, and folklore that reflect the region's history and rural lifestyle.
