What is mittwoch?

"Mittwoch" is the German word for "Wednesday". It is the third day of the week in German-speaking countries and the middle of the working week. In German, the word is derived from the Old High German term "mittawehha", which means "middle week". In some parts of Germany, especially in the Catholic regions, "Mittwoch" is known as "kleiner Freitag" (little Friday) because it is close to the weekend and a popular day for socializing and going out. In everyday conversation, the abbreviation "Mi" is often used instead of "Mittwoch".
