What is montascale?

Montascale, often referred to as stair lifts, are mechanical devices designed to help people with mobility issues navigate staircases. They allow individuals who have difficulty walking up and down stairs due to age, disability, or injury to maintain their independence and stay in their homes.

There are primarily two main types of montascale:

  • Seat lifts (or chair lifts): These consist of a chair that moves along a rail installed on the staircase. The user sits in the chair and is transported up or down the stairs at the touch of a button. Seat lifts are the most common type of montascale.

  • Platform lifts: These feature a platform instead of a chair, designed to accommodate wheelchairs or scooters. They are typically used for individuals who are unable to transfer out of their wheelchair.

Key features and considerations for montascale include:

  • Safety features: These may include seatbelts, footrests, obstruction sensors, and emergency stop buttons.

  • Weight capacity: It's important to select a model that can safely accommodate the user's weight.

  • Staircase type: Montascale can be installed on straight, curved, or spiral staircases. Curved staircases typically require custom-made models.

  • Power source: Most montascale are powered by batteries that are recharged when the lift is not in use.

  • Installation: Professional installation is usually required to ensure the montascale is properly and safely installed.
