What is moop?

A "moop" is a term that was coined by the Burning Man community to refer to Matter Out of Place. Essentially, it refers to any trash, debris, or waste that should not be present in a particular environment. In the context of Burning Man, participants are encouraged to leave no trace and pick up after themselves to prevent moop from accumulating in the Nevada desert where the event takes place.

Moop is a significant issue at Burning Man and other events or festivals where large crowds gather in remote locations. It can have negative environmental impacts, harm wildlife, and detract from the overall experience for attendees. Participants are often encouraged to follow Leave No Trace principles and clean up after themselves to minimize moop and preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings.
